Specification Architect
Define the project before AI builds it.
Learn to turn an ambiguous business idea into a coherent, testable system definition. Discover what is missing, make architecture decisions and connect requirements, diagrams and acceptance criteria before implementation begins.
Included in every subscription, alongside all other released career tracks.
Bring structure to the decisions that matter.
This track is for software professionals who need to define a project’s scope, understand its constraints and explain how the proposed system should work. Develop the judgement to question a brief, compare alternatives and make the intended behaviour clear enough to review.
Discover the real requirements
Identify stakeholders, assumptions, business rules and questions that need an explicit answer.
Model the system
Describe boundaries, domain relationships, states and interactions through connected documents and diagrams.
Defend architecture decisions
Compare options against the project’s needs and constraints, then explain the trade-offs behind your choice.
Establish implementation readiness
Check that requirements, expected outcomes and evidence criteria agree before handing the work to implementation.
A simple brief. Important unanswered questions.
A client wants a membership service. You need to uncover how registration, payment, renewals, permissions and cancellation should behave, including what happens when something goes wrong.
Work with a simulated stakeholder, identify missing context and develop a connected specification. Use coded requirements to trace decisions and verification evidence. Before release, request an AI audit of the whole project, ask for decisions on its findings, apply the agreed changes and check that each gap is resolved.

Make your reasoning visible.
Practise producing requirements, decision records, domain models, high-level architecture diagrams, detailed flows and acceptance criteria. Learn to keep them consistent so another person can trace a decision back to the requirement it serves.
Progress through demonstrated competence.
Begin as a trainee and advance through five professional levels: Junior, Associate, Specification Architect, Advanced and Senior. At each level, pass every required lesson and obtain Tutor-confirmed readiness before a separate Certification Assessment. Stored challenges use modest variations on what you learned, without tutoring or hints. Remediation takes place outside assessment.
Training uses interactive scenarios, specification work and delivery-evidence review. It does not require you to deploy a production application inside ASTAPIO.
Your questions, answered.
Will this teach me to write longer documents?
The goal is a clearer system definition. You learn to make requirements specific, connect related decisions and use diagrams where they explain behaviour more effectively than prose alone.
Is the qualification tied to one AI provider?
No. The competence being assessed is your ability to define, reason about and verify the system. ASTAPIO provides the AI used in training, while the credential represents demonstrated competence against the ASTAPIO standard for this role.
Can I also study the other roles?
Yes. All released tracks are included. Each has its own requirements for progression and certification.
